Middle Tennessee Lumber had developed a new brand of hardwood flooring called Walking Horse Plank, and they wanted feedback straight from their toughest critics—the guys who install it.
Together with a small team and a local print shop, we created the Walking Horse Golden Plank—a Willy Wonka–inspired contest. Packaged inside select bundles of the flooring, installers would discover a Golden Plank as they unwrapped and inspected the product.
Each Golden Plank was printed on cardstock from Gmund’s Savanna line, which was embossed with wood grain at the mill in Germany. We hit the paper with both gold and black foils, then further embossed the black-foiled areas. Uniquely numbered with a gold foil label hand-applied in the circle at the bottom corner, every Golden Plank pointed its winner to a mobile-friendly website where they could take a short survey. In return, they’d receive a reward worth $250.
The promotion not only allowed MTL to gain valuable, actionable insights into their customer base, but it also got that base talking about the product, ultimately growing brand awareness and loyalty.

Adobe Creative Jam is an event series where local thought leaders share their processes and projects, while teams of two compete in a tournament that puts their creative skills to the test using Adobe Creative Cloud.
After being given a prompt, the teams have several hours to create, execute and refine a design series related to it.
My partner, Meredith, and I came up with this pioneer-themed campaign/club encouraging kids to get in touch with their adventurous side, and ended up winning the People's Choice Award for the event.
